Lately, with North Carolina banning gay marriage and Tom Gabel of Against Me! coming out as transgender I feel like the push for same-sex marriages and for the equality amongst all couples is something that is becoming a really big issue in our country. So I’ve decided that because I try to stay current on issues in the US and because I literally have nothing to do till 3, im going to give my whole stance on homosexuality.
I don’t care about your sexual orientation. I honestly could not care any less and who you want to throw it in has absolutely no effect on your character as a person. Really. I think the only problem I could ever have is when a gay person makes unwarranted comments and moves on a person who they know is straight. Typically, that person is supposed to blow it off because if a a gay person is ‘hitting on them’ and they make it big deal about it then they are going to be ostracized. I’ve only seen it happen once and it really is something that is rampant. Usually lines are drawn and people of both orientations respect them. Also, if you are strong in your convictions and are very passionate in what you want to do for the people of your orientation then honestly, more power to you. BUT, the moment that you make me feel uncomfortable and become PHYSICALLY aggressive with me because I don’t have the same passion that you do, then how much better are you then everyone else? This actually happened to me at UTEP. It was ridiculous. I’m not antagonizing you so leave me alone. Basically, I respect people of all orientations; gay, straight, transgender, whatever. I don’t care who you like and if you want to be married in all 50 states, that is something that I support. I have a gay pledge brother and I will never hesitate to make the same gay jokes I do with my other pledge brothers because he is gay. In fact, the funniest thing he does is when he makes fun of someone for being gay. You do you, I really hope we can have marriage equality in this country within the next 20 years.
